26 Weeks

From Baby Center:

The network of nerves in your baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. He may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner's as you chat with each other.

He's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he's born and takes that first gulp of air.

And he's continuing to put on baby fat. He now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber) from head to heel.

Note from Jen:

An English hothouse cucumber? Seriously? Why couldn't they just say cucumber? I am no expert, but is there a huge difference between a normal cucumber and an English one??? (Edit to add: I guess there is... )

Anyway, I am feeling tired this week. I wish I could take a nap during the day. Wouldn't that be nice?!?

Sitting at work and sleeping in my bed both seem to cause some back pain, but I am getting better at preventing it at least a little. For the last two nights I have slept on my side most of the night... which is a huge accomplishment for me! I think this is helping ease a little of the back pain in the morning. At work, I downloaded a program that counts down every hour and then sends me a message on my screen that says "Go for a walk!" I am trying to make a point to get up out of my chair every hour and walk a little loop around my office building... down the stairs, outside and then back up the stairs and over to my office. It is a quick 5 minute break, but it is really helping.

Here is my 26 week picture :)

Your looking good :) I have that back pain (sciatica) with every pregnancy. It just started with this one. I also found that completely staying off of my back helps a lot. Also wearing good shoes all the time...which is sad because I love bare feet and flip flops. If it gets extreme, there are also very unattractive wide elastic bands that can be worn around your hips. Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures :)

You look so cute! You make a beautiful mommy-to-be!
I too had back pain with both of my kids. It got pretty bad towards the end where I felt like I couldn't breathe. I found that having prenatal massages really helped me! I began having the massages earlier with Gabe and I noticed a big difference. If it gets bad you should try it .... plus you may be able to take a nap during it!!!!
