Biscuits & Zurburts

The last few days Van has really started to do more and more. A few days ago he crawled to Pilot. He still scoots most of the time, but is crawling more and more.

He has just started to blow out of his mouth and make a "pwbbttt" sound. He puts his mouth on everything and zurburts. It is too funny. I'll try to post a video soon.

He is starting try to stand and a few days ago pulled himself all the way up into a standing position, after which he promptly fell over. LOL!

Today he figured out how to really jump in his jumperoo. He would jump and then look at me and laugh, then jump again.

Van loves to eat and a few weeks ago I made him teething biscuits with rice cereal, flour and apple sauce. He loves them and will try to shove them all the way in his mouth. Even though he doesn't have teeth yet (and it doesn't feel like any are coming anytime soon), he devours the teething biscuits!

We have his 6 month doctor's appointment this afternoon. I can't wait to see how much he has grown.

My first car!

Thanks to Jake and Deb, Van has his first car...
and he loves it!

Taking it out for a spin around the block.

Look out! Van's first wipe-out. Mom was there just in the nick of time.

Mmmm, I love my new car. Thanks Auntie Deb and Uncle Jake.

2009

I can't believe that it is already a week into 2010! 2009 was full of changes and fun adventures for our little family. Here is quick recap of the last year...

In January we went to China. Jen was about 5 months pregnant with Van (although at the time we still weren't sure if we would be having a boy or girl) China was a wonderful trip and we had a blast. Kenny also sold off his last airplane :(

In February Jen felt Van for the first time on Valentines Day ♥ A few days later we had an ultrasound and found out that we were going to have a boy!

On March 9th, Van's cousin Isabella was born! We were lucky enough to be there with Danny and Tonita and got to hold our new little "niece" just a few hours after she arrived into this world. These days, Van and Isabella love playing with each other and we can't wait to watch them grow up together.

We spent April getting things ready for Van's arrival. Sheree, with the help of Eric, painted Van's room and got everything all cute and decorated.

In May we got to meet Van via 4D ultrasound. Our little fella was breech and kept his feet up to his face most of the time, but we still got to see what a cutie he was. We also had the Big Baby Bash in May. The co-ed baby shower was at Palomar Airport and was so much fun.

In June we celebrated 9 years of the best marriage ever! We also went camping in Yosemite with Mom & Dad Aceves, David, Jamie & Jeffrey. Jen was 8 months pregnant and did just great sleeping in the tent and hiking all the way up to the top of Vernal Falls. June also marked Jen's last day of work, leaving only 3 weeks before Van was born.

Of course, July was the main event. Van arrived on 4-5-6-7-8-9 (4:56 on 07-08-09) via scheduled c-section due to his being breech. Sticking with the theme, he was born at 7 pounds 8 ounces (7/8 and 7' 8"). The rest of July was spent enjoying the new member of our family and playing countless hours of stare-at-the-baby.

Our crazy little guy began to roll over at 1 month old in August. He also had his first airplane ride when we flew to the east coast when he was 5 weeks old. We visited New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Canada where we visited Niagara Falls! He did great on the trip and we had so much fun sharing our love for travel with Van.

In September Van and Jen went and visited her parents for a week while Kenny was gone on a trip. Later that month, Kenny's parents came down to see how much Van had grown in 2 months.

October was pumpkin patch time and Halloween. We had the cutest "Little Monster" of them all. Van also visited Disneyland for the first time, moved into his own room at night, and wanted to constantly be in his walker or standing.

In November Jen celebrated her 29th birthday at Disneyland. The next day was Thanksgiving. We made a turduckhen and spent the day with Danny, Tonita and Isabella. Van also got his first taste of real food and has not had enough since.

December was a busy month. Kenny spent his birthday being sick and having to fly down to Mexico for a two day trip. On the second weekend of December, we went up to Jen's parents and celebrated Jeffrey's 3rd birthday and Christmas #1. A week later we flew up to Kenny's parents and celebrated Christmas #2. We celebrated Christmas #3 with just the four of us Christmas morning, followed by Christmas #4 with some good friends down in Mission Bay. The week after that, Jen's parents came down to visit for a few days while Kenny was flying. Somewhere in there, Kenny bought another airplane and is back teaching people to fly. Amongst all of the traveling and visiting, Van learned how to scoot and almost started crawling.

Well, that is a really quick look back at 2009. Can't wait to see what 2010 has for us!

6 months!

Happy 1/2 year Van!

I know I say this every month, but I cannot believe Van is 6 months old. How was it 1/2 a year ago that he was born?!? Time has flown by and we now have an active almost-crawler on our hands.

This month Van continued to learn so many new things.

*He can sit up unassisted with no problem. He is still trying to figure out how to get into a sitting position on his own, but he is almost there. Starting to try to tuck his leg and sit by himself. I think he will have it in a week or so.

*A few weeks ago he really started to be aware of himself. He will grab his feet and put them in his mouth. At one point he had both feet and his paci in at the same time! He reaches for everything and anything and can get whatever he wants.

*He started to scoot and semi-crawl this month. He gets up on his hands and knees and can propel himself wherever he wants to go. He can get all over the room by scooting, crawling and rolling. I think honest to goodness crawling is right around the corner.

*Because he wants to be on the move, he hates his changing table now. Every time we put him on it he flips over to his hands and knees and tries to crawl off the table. He cries and cries when we flip him back. The last 2 days have been a bit better and he will lay there sometimes without a fuss.

*Van loves to "talk" to Pilot. He squeals at him to get his attention. It is a special squeal that he seems to only use for Pilot. Pilot just ignores him most of the time, but every once in a while will come up and lay down next to Van.

*Van got to travel a lot this month. We went and saw both sets of grandparents for Christmas. He did pretty good while traveling and enjoyed seeing everyone.

*He is also starting to try to pull himself up on things. We dropped his crib down to the next level just in case. Good thing too because now we find him trying to grab the bumper and pull himself up. Pretty soon we will go in and he will be standing waiting for us!

*Speaking of cribs, Van is now sleeping in his crib full time. Up until this month he had been sleeping in his crib for naps and sleeping in his hammock in his room for nighttime. One morning we found him trying to play in the hammock and he had rolled over on his tummy, we decided then that it was time to move to the crib since he was getting too active and too big for the hammock. I loved the hammock and it was sad to see it go. It definitely helped him sleep through the nights when he was so young. It is on my list of things best baby products that everyone should have :) He had no problem transitioning to his crib for the night so it was definitely the right move.

*Van is a great eater and has liked almost everything he has tried. His favorites are yams, bananas, apples and prunes. Least favorites are green beans, carrots and avocado. He is eating 3 meals a day with one snack and is on a 4-hour schedule.

Our typical day looks like this:

7:00- wake up, nurse, play in bed with Mommy & Daddy
7:30- take Pilot for a walk
7:45- eat breakfast (bananas or applesauce and oatmeal)
8:30- nap (typically 2- 2 1/2 hours)
11:00- nurse & eat lunch (veggies & fruits)
12:30ish- nap (typically 1 1/2 hours)
3:00- nurse & snack (frozen bananas or frozen apples or teething biscuit)
4:00- nap (typically 1 hour)
6:00- dinner (veggies & fruits & oatmeal) & bath
7:00- nurse & get ready for bed & take Pilot for a walk
7:30- bedtime
9:30- dreamfeed (we have skipped this a few times and will be dropping it in the next week or so. I love this time so I am kinda sad, but it is starting to affect his night sleep we think)

I love this little boy of ours. He is growing up so fast and is starting to change from an infant to a toddler before our eyes.

6 months- 16lbs. 4 oz.

Van's on the move...

:)
