15 Weeks

From BabyCenter:

Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple).

She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs.

Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam.

There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds.

Finally, if you have an ultrasound this week, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl! Don't be too disappointed if it remains a mystery, though. Nailing down your baby's sex depends on the clarity of the picture and on your baby's position. He or she may be modestly curled up or turned in such a way as to "hide the goods." ( I don't get my ultrasound till week 20 :( I tried to talk her into doing one earlier, but it was no good.)

You've probably gained about 5 pounds by now, a little more or less is fine, too, (I haven't gained any yet, but with my hunger levels increasing the way they are I am sure I will gain plenty soon enough!) and are well into the swing of your pregnancy, but you may still be surprised by an unexpected symptom now and then.

Don't be surprised if you and your partner are feeling a little stressed out these days (Only stress right now has been work related. Can't wait for vacation!). Many pregnant couples worry about their baby's health and how they'll handle the changes ahead. But with physical discomforts on the wane and energy on the rise, this is also a wonderful trimester for most women.

Note from Jen:

I just got back from my doctor's appointment and it looks like we are good to go for our trip to China. I was just told to get up and walk every 10 minutes on the plane and be careful about eating fruits and veggies in China. The doctor also joked that maybe I should just take a Benadryl so I can sleep the entire flight :)

My next appointment is in 4 weeks and I should be getting my next ultrasound around that time. We still need to make up our minds about finding out if we are having a boy or a girl, but it looks like the majority of you really want us to find out!

At the appointment today she also listened to the baby's heartbeat again. She found it easily at first, but then the baby quickly moved away. She laughed and said that the baby is moving like crazy. When she found it again it was about 160 BPM. If you trust the old wives tales, this could mean we are having a girl!

Well, other than being stressed at work, I am feeling great. Back to my normal self. Without the morning sickness and extreme exhaustion, it is easy to forget that I am actually pregnant. I am sure that will change in the coming weeks as I get bigger and start to feel the baby move!

160BPM could be little Kate moving around so fast in there! Maybe soon we'll find out :)
We love you three!
